In our passage today we discuss the Magnificat, a beautiful song sang by Mary in a state of happiness because God has touched her with His grace. The song corresponds with the song of Hanna in 1 Samuel 2:1-10. If we look at Hanna we find the same emotions of shame, loss, pain, hopelessness, oppression and anxiousness. Now Mary can sing about the greatness of God and how blessed she is. She is longing for something better.
God in his mercy is helping the humble and strengthening the weak. He is loyal from generation to generation for those who seek Him. He scatters the proud and brings down rulers from their thrones, filled the hungry and sent the rich away. He has helped the nation of Israel as promised to Abraham.
Suddenly after hearing the news of the Messiah, Mary is not the oppressed anymore but the Victor, the hopeful one who has seen the fulfillment of the promise. She is now not part of the pain and anxiousness but of elation and joy. She has everything and lacks nothing, in God she is complete and joyous!
