Luke 3:21-4:13 Jesus the new Adam

Updated: Feb 19, 2021

When Jesus was baptised, (Luke 3:21-22), God spoke from heaven and declared that Jesus is his Son. This is a very important statement as it gives us absolute clarity about who Jesus is. He is the Son of God the one who was appointed and sent to save us from death and hell. Luke then shows us the family tree of Jesus (Luke 3:23-38) and takes it back to Adam. By doing this he connects Jesus to the first Adam, we should remember that through the failure of the Adam and Eve in the garden we all ended up in sin. Adam's transgression destroyed us all and brought is down from the glory we were supposed to be (Romans 5:17-18). In the next chapter (Luke 4:1-13) Luke describes the temptation of Jesus and how he was able to reject Satan and step away from his callous ways. By this Jesus restored our glory and our relationship with God. Through Jesus we are included in a new family tree, the family of Jesus. We are not part of the old life anymore. In Jesus we are children of the Kingdom of God and we are destined for the new heaven and earth, the new Jerusalem. We are all new creations.
